Meet our Inclusive Arts Advisory Group Members

Jasmine Pearce

As an artist with hidden disabilities Jasmine practises a variety of arts. Her specialty is modern day quilting, but she also likes to do watercolour, and digital content for YouTube.

Based in the Isaac Region Jasmine has been part of our Inclusive Arts Advisory Group since the beginning. She saw it as an opportunity to meet other artists who also face barriers, and also contribute by exploring ways with the group how to make Crossroad Arts events in Mackay accessible to all.

Jasmine joins the Inclusive Arts Advisory Group with a lot of experience, she has collaborated with Queensland Music Festival and Isaac Performing Arts. She was the founder of Dysart Arts Inc and remained President for 3 years. Jasmine tutored many crafting workshops for all ages and is also a member of Isaac Regional Councils’ - Isaac Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee. Jasmine has also received multiple nominations and wins for Australia Day awards as a result of her contributions to the arts.

Sally joined the Inclusive Arts Advisory Group because it is a paid opportunity and because she gets to talk about her experiences with Crossroad Arts and advocate for better wheelchair access, including ramps and accessible bathrooms.

“I really enjoy coming to Crossroad Arts and I would hate to not be able to come here anymore. I feel very strongly about people seeing, hearing and respecting people with disability”.

Georgia Knoll

Georgia is an accomplished performer and co-facilitator that has worked with Crossroad Arts since 2011. Georgia was included in a listing of Mackay’s 50 most influential people.

Cynthia Gregg

Cynthia Gregg is an expressionist-style visual and performing artist based in regional Queensland, Mackay. Living with CPTSD she has found great value and importance in the arts in the role of documenting and contributing towards the recovery of those with complex mental health conditions.

For many years she has used art and specifically the medium of acrylic painting to help process the difficulties that herself and others may experience. Cynthia firmly believes that there is value in sharing her work - which turns moments of vulnerability into something that acknowledges the beauty of life despite challenges.

As her art practice has developed over time Cynthia has found joy and comfort in capturing specific moments in time with others through live painting and performance. Cynthia also greatly enjoys painting murals, revitalising & activating city spaces with art, and facilitating Crossroad Arts Wearable Art workshops.

Over the years Cynthia has had extensive experience with the public mental health system in Queensland, and has joined this group in order to share some of that experience and knowledge in a way that will make Crossroad Arts more accessible for those with mental health conditions.

Joshua Clarke

Joshua Clarke is a long time performer of Crossroad Arts and has performed in major productions including An Unconventional Tour and An Unexpected Tour and Unlock the City.

Joshua loves doing voice overs and hopes he can one day be in radio. Joshua has been MCing at events and performances and co-facilitates the Unheard Voices Choir  ‘Come Sing’ program. He loves acting and wants to write and produce a one act play.

Joshua Clarke is a founding member of Bee Creativezzz which is a Mackay social enterprise that creates projects and employment opportunities for people with disability through creative projects. He loves to facilitate workshops and teach others his tie dye techniques.

Alexandra Buchanan

Alex is a visual and performing artist and is part of the Access Arts visual arts program. She is an ensemble member at Indelability Arts and has been part of the Undercover Artist team as trainee producer for the last 6 months. Alex’s show Betsy and I premiered at Undercover 2023 and she also starred in Wilbur the Optical Whale.

Alex would love to see more disabled leadership and disability led practices. She would also like to see non-disabled people be willing to hear the voice of disabled people and be willing to listen. More opportunities for accessible professional development is something Alex strongly advocates for.

Hanh Izard

Hanh is a visual artist based in Mackay and specialises in urban landscape paintings of the Mackay Region. Hanh enjoys capturing and painting often overlooked views that as a local they encounter everyday.

Hanh has enjoyed exhibiting in the Street View Gallery and performing Live Painting at LOOSE ENDS with Crossroad Arts and assisting with the creation of set construction and working backstage during Crossroad Arts theatre productions. Hanh was also an active member during the mural painting with the Mackay Laneways Project and has work featured in the now iconic Fifth Lane.

Hanh loves assisting and helping with projects whenever they can and being a part of an inclusive artistic environment.

In 2021, she joined the Inclusive Arts Advisory at its inception to help our community grow by ensuring that it is accessible as possible. Hanh reflects that it has also been great to connect with other artists with disability and to work together as a team.

Living with ASD, Anxiety, and Dyslexia, Hanh has found a safe space to create, share, and grow as an artist with Crossroad Arts.

Tegan O’Keefe

Tegan has been involved in the arts for many years.  She joined Crossroad Arts workshops, Performance in the Gallery and Stretchy Pants in 2024 and looks forward to class each week. As a result of these classes Tegan expressed interest in being a part of the Inclusive Arts Advisory Group.

Although only joining workshops this year Tegan has been associated with Crossroad Arts each year at the end of year fundraiser, LOOSE ENDS, since it was launched back in 2018 and looks forward to dancing on stage with her friends at this event each year.

Outside of Crossroad Arts programs Tegan loves attending weekly dance classes with Groove Moover.  She has attended and performed at many Dance Congresses around Australia, local Eisteddfods & was fortunate enough to even travel to Japan to perform at the Osaka International Latin Festival back in 2016. Tegan started dancing when she was in her early teens.

Tegan also has a love for sports. Tegan is a member of Mackay Fire Special Olympics and competes in ten pin bowling, table tennis, basketball, bocce and Kung fu.  During the NRL season, she plays for the Mackay Cutters All Abilities team. Tegan's greatest sporting achievement would be when she was selected to travel to Abu Dhabi to represent Australia at the Special Olympics for bowling in 2019

Apply to join our Inclusive Arts Advisory Group!

Crossroad Arts has an exciting paid opportunity for anyone who is D/deaf or identifies as having disability including those with mental health health conditions, hidden disability, chronic illness or who are neurodiverse.  If you are also an artist or interested in the arts, that’s a bonus but not essential.  Applicants from Dawson, Isaac and Whitsunday regions are encouraged to apply as they are more likely able to attend the events to provide feedback in person.

The group will meet several times in 2024 to advise on the accessibility for our projects and productions and also any assistance with marketing to the community. The Inclusive Arts Advisory Group advised Crossroad Arts on its strategic and artistic vision.
